You can't.

Yous can barely go into it having played them all before!

(Seriously, you probably could and still enjoy the game, only to savor every role of information technology, you'd have to do your homework. Sources indicate that it's really a game for the people that honey the franchise deeply.)

Yep, sure. Some elements of the story might not brand sense, but permit me boil information technology downward for you:

Sora is a kid with a keyblade who goes around chirapsia up bad guys in Disney worlds. There's an evil system of men in black hoods trying to essentially take over the earth. Frozen, Toy Story, Pirates of the Caribbean!

Just play it and later report to us how lost are you when playing the game. Having impression of total newcomer similar you would be super valuable for future discussion of the game.

Imo, I think you'll be really lost and confused unless SE have actually practiced summary at the beginning of the game, but Id dearest to hear your feel.

  • #8
How lost in the plot will I be?
Yous will be lost regardless of whether or not yous played the other games and or catch upwardly by videos. If information technology looks fun to play check out. The plot is a nightmare even if you lot follow it closely.

Why is this a thing with KH? OP would you go and play Metal Gear Solid iv without playing the other titles?
  • #10
You lot are already lost

  • #11
Yep. Every bit KH3 co-director Tai Yasue had said and repeated since 2016:

"You can play KH3 without playing the past games past simply enjoying the Disney worlds and gameplay."

Simple as that.

There are a lot of characters from a bunch of different stories whose arcs get resolved in this game. That stuff is never going to have the narrative payoff you'd get it yous played all the games.

People somehow dealt with the Organization getting petty to no grapheme development in a couple of the games where they first appeared, and so mayhap you'll be fine here.

Without knowing what actually happens, I have no idea what foreknowledge is useful for understanding the game's internal plot.

Scout a vídeo on YouTube on the story/past games and y'all're good.
Honestly, I played them all(minus re:Coded) and needed to watch ane of these too.

Yes, simply don't focus on story too much but play the game and have fun got great gameplay and presentation etc, basically good vs evil story
  • #17
I'm in the same boat, I gauge I'll be asking questions and watching youtube next week
  • #18
Why is this a matter with KH? OP would yous become and play Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing the other titles?

I played MGS 5 and had but played MGS two........pretty damn confusing but the gameplay was skilful enough

The gameplay is always fun

Simply the story is a glorious mess of retcons and deus ex machina that is then goddamn fun that its non the aforementioned without information technology

Yea the games are designed so that new commers tin can at least participate in the games story. Some parts might not brand sense since they are wrapping upward plot lines from other games. But the beginning and center parts of the game should be good for you. If previous entries are indicative of how the story unfolds.

I haven't played the first ii Kingdom Hearts since they came out but even playing those games I have no idea what happened.

I have played nearly of the games and I still don't really sympathise the story, merely sentry a recap video and yous will probably be fine for KH3.

Why is this a thing with KH? OP would you get and play Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing the other titles?
What about MGSV? At that place's no way to play the majority of the prequels if you only had a PS4 for example?

Why is this a matter with KH? OP would you go and play Metallic Gear Solid 4 without playing the other titles?

Information technology happens with every game that gets a large sequel tho, remember witcher 3?

I played MGS 5 and had only played MGS 2........pretty damn disruptive but the gameplay was skillful enough

I mean if y'all similar Action RPG'southward it doesn't become much better than Kingdom Hearts to be honest, especially 2. Some of the all-time in the genre.

And i kinda need KH3 to wash away the bad taste of FFXV regarding ARPGs...

As someone that doesn't care much virtually stories in games, I've played heaps of sequels without playing the original game if I hear that the sequel is significantly better.
  • #27
You tin can? Y'all can. You should? You shouldn't. It's the cease of a saga of like 8 games.
Richietto
  • #28
Up to you lot. But don't go in thinking you'll understand a ton of the story. Yous'll get the wide strokes, but there is gonna exist a ton of reveals. A take hold of upwardly video could help a lot if you lot wanted to try and sympathise.

Just lookout man one of the many story recaps on YouTube and that will requite you a practiced thought of what'south going on. You don't have to take a corking understanding of these games to enjoy them. Play KH3 if it interests you and wiki annihilation you don't understand

Y'all could, I don't know if you should though.

What about MGSV? At that place's no fashion to play the majority of the prequels if you lot merely had a PS4 for example?

Just... that's not the case hither, you have collections in PS3 and PS4 of all the required games leading up to this ane.

If you're comfy hopping into a narrative-focused franchise on the conclusion of a series-spanning plot thread, go for information technology. Don't just purchase information technology because it's the hot new thing.

Go this instead.

Sora is a child with a keyblade who goes around chirapsia up bad guys in Disney worlds. There'south an evil organisation of men in black hoods trying to essentially take over the world. Frozen, Toy Story, Pirates of the Caribbean!

Best summary ever :D

OP: I only played KH one and 2 which led to me asking myself all the fourth dimension while I was playing KH2: What the fuck is going on? I accept no inkling where all these characters come from, who they are or what their motivation is. There seems to happen A LOT betwixt KH1 and KH2.
Do yourself a favour and play the games or scout at least a recap. Otherwise KH3 will be a shitshow I guess.

I played MGS 5 and had just played MGS ii........pretty damn disruptive but the gameplay was good enough

The story in MGS five is garbage fifty-fifty if you have been following the whole series.

I'm kind of the stance that Kingdom Hearts is the same way. If you aren't already invested and just desire to see a agglomeration of absurd Disney stuff and beat on some monsters, you might besides jump into KH3.

I don't retrieve going back and playing a dozen games of varying quality will exist worth the actress story context in the long run.

  • #39
You can.

You shouldn't.

Pick upwards KH: The Story So Far and spend a couple weeks. KH1 can be rought at times but the series is, as a whole, a complete smash. Play through it, have fun, then jump into KH3 afterwards.

I hateful plot-wise probably not, but in terms of gameplay, you'll probably exist fine. The get-go earth is literally the protagonist re-learning all their skills and then it's most guaranteed to have tutorials to help you out.

  • #41
I watched a bunch of lengthy epitomize videos and I could barely follow the story. Mainly because of the hilarious number of retcons.

KH is simply a theme park ride for people who don't intendance about the actual impaired plot. Then go for it.

Spotter a recap video. You will have to anyways - playing the games might make it more confusing haha

  • #44
I don't even know why people follow the nuances of the story. I played 1 and 2 and don't call back anything, and I'one thousand going into 3 and stoked for it.

Kid wants to finish a large baddie. Clones or some shit. They're from an isle, simply weirdly no one else lives there. Principal grapheme is Naruto, friend is Sasuke. There's Disney stuff.

Well it's easier to play than Half-Life three at least.

Absolutely non. At that place's no recap videos at the start, or optional movies like in Yakuza, it dives directly into the deep end and expects you to come straight off Dream Drop Altitude and Fragmentary Passage.

Information technology'due south not just nigh understanding the story, OP – yous'd be missing out on following these characters grow and change through their lives.
  • #l
Go for it. It'south not like the story is well told or well written. Sentinel a epitomize video if yous really care.
